Exam Access Arrangements

Supporting Students in Examinations

We want every student to have a fair, level playing field to demonstrate their true academic abilities during examinations.

Exam Access Arrangements (EAA) are pre-examination adjustments approved before testing takes place.

These arrangements reflect a student's normal way of working in the classroom and are based on evidence of need.

Adjustments are designed to remove barriers for students with specific learning difficulties, medical conditions or physical/sensory needs without giving them an unfair advantage.

Common Exam Access Arrangements

1
Extra Time
For students with processing difficulties.
2
Reader or Computer Reader
For students with significant reading difficulties.
3
Scribe, Laptop or Speech-to-Text
For students who experience difficulties recording their answers independently.
4
Rest Breaks
For students with medical, physical or emotional needs.

How Are Exam Access Arrangements Awarded?

Exam Access Arrangements can only be awarded where there is clear evidence of a student's ongoing need and where the arrangement reflects their normal way of working in school. Decisions are based on classroom evidence, teacher feedback, and formal assessments where appropriate.

Access Arrangements cannot be awarded solely because a student feels anxious or stressed before examinations, nor are they automatically granted following a diagnosis or parental request.
