At Orleans Park, we are committed to ensuring that every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn. We work closely with families to put appropriate healthcare arrangements in place and to ensure that staff have the information they need to support your child effectively.
If your child has a medical condition or requires medication during the school day, please complete the correlating form below:
Individual Healthcare Plan (IHCP)
Administration of Medication Consent Form
Emergency Inhaler Consent Form
Emergency Use of Schools Epipen Consent Form
If your child has a hospital-issued healthcare plan, please email a copy to medical@orleanspark.school and also complete the school Healthcare Plan form above. This ensures that all information is accurate and fully aligned, allowing us to provide the best possible support for your child. You must also let your child's Head of Year know.
Please note that we do not have a qualified nurse on site. Our medical room is staffed by trained first aiders and is designed to support students with minor injuries and illnesses during the school day; it is not a replacement for a doctor’s surgery or hospital care. In line with UK guidance, schools are required to have appropriate first aid provision and trained staff, but there is no legal requirement for a school to have a qualified nurse on site.
Students are always welcome to attend the medical room if they feel unwell. However, attending the medical room does not automatically mean a student will be sent home. Our staff will assess symptoms and decide on the most appropriate course of action. In many cases, students are able to return to lessons after a short period of rest or treatment. We kindly ask families not to pre-emptively advise their child that attending the medical room will result in going home.
If your child is too unwell to remain in school, we will contact you directly. In the event of a serious illness or injury, emergency services will be called and families informed immediately.
It is essential that we have at least two emergency contacts listed for every student so that we can reach someone quickly if needed. If you are unable to use your phone during the day due to work commitments, please ensure that one of your emergency contacts is available during school hours and able to collect your child if required.
We understand that some students may need medication during the school day, for example if they are prescribed antibiotics. To ensure everyone’s safety, please follow the guidance below:
If anything is unclear or you have any questions, please contact medical@orleanspark.schoolas soon as possible so we can support you.
A member of staff will always contact you to request permission before administering paracetamol from the school supply. We cannot give paracetamol without first speaking to a parent or carer to obtain verbal consent.
The only exception is where you have already provided the medication, details of the condition, and a completed consent form; in these cases, medication will be administered as agreed.
Please note that students should not carry their own medication unless this has been agreed in advance (for example, inhalers or EpiPens).
Please also note that the school is not able to supply ibuprofen or antihistamines.
If your child has been vomiting or has had diarrhoea, they should remain at home for 48 hours after the last episode before returning to school. Please do not send your child into school during this 48-hour period, as this helps to reduce the spread of infection to others.
