What will you study?

Three branches of mathematics will be studied. They do, however all interlink with each other. An overview for each branch is as follows:

Pure Maths
  • Algebraic skills
  • Co-ordinate geometry
  • Functions and different representations of them
  • Trigonometry
  • Calculus
Mechanics
  • Kinematics of a particle
  • Dynamics of a particle
  • Forces in equilibrium
Statistics
  • Measures of dispersion and location
  • Distributions of data
  • Probability
  • Correlation and regression

What skills will you develop?

The new A level ready to begin in 2017 will focus on three main areas of mathematical understanding:

  • Mathematical reasoning
  • Mathematical modelling
  • Mathematical Proof

How will you be assessed?

3 exams at the end of year 13. Each is worth one-third of your final grade.  

Paper 1 and Paper 2 (2 hours each)

Pure Mathematics 

Paper 3 (2 hours)

Mechanics and Statistics
